Tour a Contemporary Show Home with an Interior Designer
Take a home tour and see what’s trending for #HomeStyle and #ID now. Cornflower is a collection of single storey link homes in Ipoh designed to meet a popular trend of young families who love the idea of living harmoniously on one floor. Kinta Properties selected Director of Design Base, Kherk Min and her team to dress Cornflower show home. Here Kherk Min takes us through her inspiration behind the minimalist interior design. What was the inspiration behind the interior design of Cornflower? This show home is an affordable yet stylish home that’s ideal for young families; with a modern and minimalistic concept. With a unique high levelled ceiling and generous living spaces, Cornflower is a gem! Running a *pelmet around the perimeter of the living area and the bedrooms, fosters a feeling of cosiness without compromising the original height of the ceiling. Pelmet – is a framework placed above a window to conceal curtain fixtures. Can also be used decoratively and help concealed recessed lighting. In the second bedroom, we made the most of the vertical volume in the room by fitting in a bunk bed – allowing the room to be comfortably shared by two young people while having their own individual space. In maximising natural light into the home, we crafted a slit on the wall between the dining area and kitchen allowing a flow between the two spaces. With the generous layout of the kitchen, we were also able to fit out a breakfast counter together with a pantry, giving an additional dimension to the kitchen. What interior design trends are you seeing right now? The idea of having a comfortable home environment is definitely in many people’s minds as we’ve been spending more time at home. Clients are favouring a more minimalistic approach in planning, and they prioritise the functional aspects of the interior rather than the aesthetics. A common theme is ‘Modern Natural’, the use of natural colours and materials are the latest trends in design. I always remind people don’t just go on what’s on trend, you should decide based on what you are comfortable with because it is your home, the interior should be a comfortable space that is dear to your lifestyle. Be inspired by our Home Design Ideas 2021 here What’s your favourite feature in the home and why? My personal favourite is the living area, I like the double volume space with the high level glass panels. This immerses the entire living and dining area with plenty of natural light. For a single storey linked home the size of the kitchen is impressive and with its well-planned layout makes it a cosy home for a young family to spread out in. What’s the one thing you never fail to buy on a home shopping spree? Personally, I love home deco pieces – be it a candle stand, vases, table top pieces, they can be irresistible at times. Often, I am attracted to items which are colourful and eye catching. I always end up with one or two extras in the bag on my shopping trips. Design Base – was first established in Singapore and then opened its operations in KL in 1998 by a small group of dedicated individuals who believed that design can shapes lives.
